Hola Hola Coca-Cola!
My high school Spanish teacher used to always say that to us all the time
and I loved it! Long story short, I may not be able to speak to you in Spanish
but I can definitely say hello to you in a unique way! So, hi! Hope your Monday
was swell!
So, tonight I was
looking at some of my makeup brushes and I was kind of extremely disgusted at how dirty
some of them where! I knew I had to clean them so I was like hey, why not post
a blog about it! I often wonder how
often other people clean their makeup brushes or if they even do it at all. Hint to every single person on the planet who wears
makeup; cleaning your makeup brushes is extremely important! Would you
use the same skillet to make spaghetti that you made taco meat in? Um, I sure I
hope not! Same thing goes for makeup brushes! Take a second to think about how
many germs, how much bacteria, and other gunk that
could potentially be in your makeup brushes! Now, think about how often
those makeup brushes touch your face! Yuck! I am not trying to gross you
out, I am just trying to make a point! The point I am trying to make is that
you should be cleaning your makeup brushes! You
should ideally be cleaning your makeup brushes once a week or at least once
every two weeks! I clean my brushes once a week and if I use a really
colorful or foiled eye shadow then I will wash it right after I use it. I get that some people don’t want to take the
time to wash their brushes but, think of the benefits of washing
them! If you wash your brushes you are reducing the amount of bacteria you put
on your face which hello, reduces possible break outs, AND you are extending
the life of your brushes! Yay for life! I am going to make it super easy on you guys and I am gonna give you guys a few tips and tricks on
how I clean my makeup brushes! So, just keep reading and don’t forget to
clean your brushes, my friends!
How I Clean My Makeup Brushes:
I use one of two
different products to clean my brushes, Purity Made Simple Face Wash or Johnson’s Baby Shampoo (I used baby shampoo today).
1.
Philosophy Purity Made Simple Face Wash
($11.00-$44.00)
This product is a Holy Grail product of mine. I use it
to wash my face every single night of my life and I use it to wash my makeup brushes. It
is a little spendy but it is so worth it! It literally takes off every single
ounce of makeup you have on. It honestly just sucks it right out of your skin, it's amazing! I would highly recommend buying it! I get my Philosophy products at Ulta or
Sephora. P.S. This stuff lasts a long time too because a little goes a long
way!
2.
Johnson’s Baby Shampoo ($3.99)
Everyone who is close to me knows how much I love
products intended for babies. I don't know what it is, I just love it! I use baby lotion every day of my life! They are
just awesome products because they are so gentle! I have sensitive
skin so I just like their products a ton! Baby shampoo is a perfect way to
clean your brushes for cheap! I buy mine at Target or Wal-Mart.
Step One: Grab your baby shampoo or purity face wash, some
paper towels, and a paper bowl!
Step Two: Put a quarter-sized amount of product in your paper
bowl, lay out your paper towels, and start running some nice warm water!
Step Three: Grab a brush and put it underneath the warm water.
Step Four: Dip your wet brush in your product!
Step Five: Start to work out the makeup with your hands
underneath the water and then rub the brush gently on a paper
towel in clockwise and counterclockwise motions or just rub it on the palm of your hands in clockwise and counterclockwise motions. I prefer to use my palm
because I think it’s much more gentle on my brushes!
If you look closely in this picture above, you can see the product coming out!
The picture above is my blush brush. Gross!
Yay! Now my blush brush is clean!
** You may need to do this step a few times depending
on the brush! **
Example of a brush that takes a few times, my foundation brush!
It was so dirty! Don't judge!
Foundation brush is back to looking like new!
Step Six: After all if the product is worked out and the brush
no longer gives off any residue or color, rinse it with warm water and then
place it on a paper towel!
Step Seven: Let dry over night!
This
is my go-to way to clean my brushes! It is so easy and fast for me! It takes me about twenty minutes to do my brushes! Keep in mind that I have
a good amount of brushes! There's just something about using a freshly cleaned brush that is just amazing. Not to mention, my makeup will apply so so so much better after cleaning my brushes too! On days when I am
doing multiple different faces of makeup, like for weddings and prom, I will use a product called
Cinema Secrets because then I can clean my brushes between every person because I use their fast drying formula. Speaking of prom… I will have a few prom inspired
looks this week so stay tuned!
Get
to cleaning, my friends!
Xoxo,
Clarissa
