Makeup Geek Eye Shadows 101

Hey lovelies! I said I was going to have a new post up this weekend but I took the weekend off and went out to a tiny town in South Dakota with one of my friends to celebrate her son’s 2nd birthday instead! There is just something about a tiny town that makes my heart happy! Most people are like freaked out by tiny towns in the middle of nowhere and I just fricken LOVE them. Everyone is so nice to you and they just make you feel like you're family. I had the best time out there!

How can someone not love a place that looks like this?  After we left Wessington, I came back to celebrate my mom's birthday with my family back in Minnesota. Lot's of family time this weekend. I had a busy but fabulous weekend to say the least!

So, today I am going to talk about my favorite thing in the world, Makeup Geek eye shadow. This entire blog will be ideal for anyone who is looking to build their collection or for anyone who is looking for amazing quality shadows!

So, for the people who have no idea what Makeup Geek is, it is a website that sells various cosmetic items such as blushes, eye shadow, pigments, brushes, liners, and so on! Makeup Geek has seemed to of taken over the makeup world and I can totally see why, their products are AMAZING! Not only can you get these amazing quality products but you can also get them for an extremely cheap price. It is nuts! I have so many good things to say about Makeup Geek products that it is unreal. I could go on and on and on about them but, I will spare you.

I bought my first like 8ish Makeup Geek shadows this past winter and now I have makeup geek shadows galore, pigments, blushes, foiled shadows, you name it! I adore Makeup Geek products. I love love love Makeup Geek.

I think some people that aren’t overly comfortable with makeup or people who are less comfortable with picking out their own makeup maybe shy away from Makeup Geek products because not only can you not see them in person but they don’t come in palette forms, meaning you have to pick the colors out yourself.

I know that having like a hundred shadows pop up on your computer screen can be a little intimidating but what people don’t realize is how fun it is to pick out your own shadows! Not only is picking out your own shadows fun but it will also save you money because not only will you use your shadows more because you were the one that actually picked them out! I think of how many times that I bought a palette and ended up not using half of the shadows in it… such a waste! You do NOT have that problem with makeup geek! You pick your own!

What Makeup Geek does is sell them by the compact (packaged) or pan (not packaged) and then you can put the pan in like Z-Palettes or what ever. I recommend buying them by the pan and then buying Z-Palettes to put them in because that way you have them all in one place and it is just super duper easy to store. The pans come with a little magnetic back and you can just pop them right in.

Makeup Geek has a ton of products that I love but today I am just going to stick with the shadows that I love. I am going to try to limit myself to the ones that I think that you need the most or like the one’s that I think would make the perfect Makeup Geek starter kit. All of the shadows that I will be mentioning today retail on the Makeup Geek website for $5.99. Yes, I said $5.99.

I am going to split these up into matte shades and shimmer shades. We all know how much I love mattes so I am going to start with mattes.

Peach Smoothie is a shade that I use every single day whether it is on me or someone else. It is the perfect transition shade. Peach Smoothie is a beautiful matte creamy peach color! It looks stunning on every one.

Crème Brulee is a Holy Grail shadow of mine. It is a must have! I use this shade with Peach smoothie for my transition color every single day. It is a soft medium sand brown color. It is just absolutely gorgeous.

Cupcake is the most beautiful dusty rose pinky matte color. I like pink shadows, I think that they are very flattering on a lot of people. Cupcake is a fun color if you are looking for a change of pace from the normal brown colors.

Chickadee is a shade that so many people freak out and shy away from because of the color. Chickadee is an orangish yellowish matte color. It warms up any eye look! It is such a fun color for summer! It is awesome. Try it and you will fall in love. I did my friend’s makeup the other day and she was stunned to find out that she had orange on her eyes. Don’t knock it till you try it!

Barcelona Beach is another shade that I just adore! I think every one should have it in their Makeup Geek shadow collection because it is a soft cool tone matte brown. It is hard to find a cool toned brown! This shade can also be a transition shade or a crease color.

Preppy is such a unique shadow! It is like an olivey brownish matte color. It is perfect for people with a more olivey skin tone. It looks ideal on people with a tan! I use it as a crease color.

Bitten is my favorite eye shadow in all of life. It is such a holy grail. If there is one shadow that I want you to buy, it is this shadow. It is the most perfectly beautiful cranberry wine matte brown shade. You can wear it with literally any other shadow. You can wear it with pinks, browns, blacks, taupe, anything! Buy it, buy it, buy it!

Frappe is a warm maple matte brown shade. It is gorgeous! I use it as a crease shade all the time and it looks absolutely stunning.

Cocoa Bear is a shade that everyone and I mean everyone needs to own! Go buy this fricken shadow! It is another holy grail of mine. It is the most perfect matte warm reddish warm brown! It warms up any and every eye look and looks perfect on the outer corner.
Mocha is that perfect deep matte brown that is ideal for a neutral smokey eye! It is just stunning and I think that everyone needs to have it in their own collection. It is such a simple shade but it is a necessity.

Corrupt is the blackest of all black shadows. People say that it is the blackest on the market and from what I know, it really is. It is literally as black as fricken night.

So, that was what… eleven matte shadows. Oops! A girl's gotta have options people! Now, for the shimmery shades!

Shimma Shimma is an extremely pigmented pinky beige champagne shimmery color. It gives you a nice shine without looking glittery. It is so multi purpose that it blows my mind. I use it as a brow highlight, inner corner highlight, or a cheekbone highlight.  It is amazing!

Glamorous is the perfect all over the lid shade! It has such a pretty shine to it. Glamorous is a gold bronze coppery pan of shimmery delight.

Cosmopolitan is another shade that everyone should have! I dropped mine and it broke and I am sad. I need to order it again. It is a beautiful rosy gold shade. It is ideal for an all over the lid color because of the beautiful shine that it gives off. It is gorgeous!

Moondust is honestly amazing. It is flattering on anyone and everyone. I use it all the time for my prom girls that I do. Moondust is a metallic taupey silvery shade.

Burlesque is another dark cranberry shade. It is very similar to the shade Bitten expect Burlesque has a shimmer to it. I love this shade on the lid with Cupcake in the crease and Cocoa Bear in the outer corner.

Taupe Notch is another gorgeous color. It is a dark sandy taupey shade with a slight shimmer. It is not over board on the shine life and that is why I like it. You can use it in the crease or all over the lid. I like the taupey colors. I think they are flattering on blue eyes.

Homecoming is an amazing color! It is another one that I broke along with cosmopolitan... I broke four of them. It was a sad afternoon. Traveling from Minnesota to South Dakota and back again does that to a girl! Homecoming is such a smooth medium taupey brown with a goldish shimmer to it. It is gorgeous!

Hey, hey, hey! I did it in fewer than 20 shadows! Yay! Like I said, these are the ones that I find myself using the most. I have a few more favorite shades but they are a little out there. I just wanted to fill you guys on the ones that I feel like everyone should have! I know that I will be using them a lot in my step-by-step’s and tutorials and you guys probably are like what the hell is going on and where are these from. So, there is a start for you! By no means am I saying go by all of these at once… unless you want to! I worked my way up and am continuing to buy more. I would love to have every single Makeup Geek eye shadow but I gotta pace myself!

Pictured above is Peach Smoothie, Crème Brulee, Cupcake, Chickadee, Barcelona Beach, Preppy, Bitten. I wanted to show it in the natural lighting so you guy’s could actually see how pigmented they really are.

Pictured above are Frappe, Cocoa Bear, Mocha, Shimma Shimma, Glamorous, Moondust, Burlesque, and Taupe Notch. The shimmer ones are just amazing. So pigmented and they feel like butter.

I hope you guys found this helpful. Let me know if you guys to decide to buy them! I have another shipment in mind from Makeup Geek again. Their new collection of the foiled eye shadows are out of this world stunning! So, yeah… I need them in my life.
Anyways, have a fab day!

Xoxo,

Clarissa
